Our Innovative Approach:

We understand that Pathfinder School is not right for everyone, and we aim to enroll families whose children will be supported at home in ways that will allow them to thrive in our community. For example, one of our Guiding Values is that every child deserves the freedom to fail—stepping back and allowing your child that freedom can be incredibly difficult. Adults of potential Pathfinder learners should be committed to our Learning Model, and prepared to support their children when failures happen, rather than swooping in to rescue them before they fail, or actively working to prevent them from failing.

Before filling out an application, please consider the following:

Read through the information on the What We Believe and How We Learn pages of the website, and thoughtfully consider whether your family’s values align with those of our community. Please be sure that you understand & fully support our Learning Model, especially the importance of our Community Agreements & the JC Process!

Although we are a secular community, Pathfinder School meets at St. Stephen United Methodist Church at 2520 Oates Drive, Mesquite.  We are not affiliated with the church; we rent space at their beautiful facility.

Learners attending Pathfinder are homeschool students. While our Guides will support your learner's educational goals, their adults bear the full responsibility for the child's education, in accordance with Texas law.

STEP 1: APPLICATION

Complete the Application Form and pay the Application Fee. Upon receipt of the form and fee, you will be contacted within 72 hours to schedule a day for your Family Interview, Tour, and Trial Day.  The application fee is $35 per family.

STEP 2: FAMILY INTERVIEW, TOUR, & TRIAL DAY

Pathfinder is going through some exciting changes, so our learners voted not to accept new families for the Fall Semester of 2023. When we start back, our learners will vote on whether or not we will schedule Trial Days for potential new learners to start in January 2024. If you are interested in joining us then, please fill out an application to secure your spot on the waiting list. Family Interviews would begin in October & the families who interview early will have first pick at open Trial Days.

If there is more than one adult involved in the decision to join our community, we strongly recommend that those adults attend the Interview. On Trial Days, you'll have the opportunity to tour our space; your learner(s) will attend for the school day. Please note: This step is a very important part of our enrollment process; however, we will not schedule a Family Interview until we have received a completed application, and the application fee has been paid.

STEP 3: INVITATION TO ENROLL

Once you have completed the above requirements, current Pathfinder learners will vote on whether or not to offer enrollment; once an offer has been made, the family has 48 hours to accept.  Upon acceptance, you will receive a link to fill out enrollment paperwork, pay the supply and technology fee, and choose a tuition payment option; the Supply & Technology Fee is due within 7 days of your acceptance.

STEP 4: WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY

Pathfinder School is much more than a school and we look forward to getting to know each of our new families.  Once a learner is enrolled for the following school year, the family is encouraged to join us at our field trips and S.T.E.A.M. activities for the rest of the Spring semester, so that they can get to know the other families in the Pathfinder community. For the Field Trips you choose to attend, you will be responsible for paying the Field Trip cost for your learner(s) and any adults who participate.

STEP 5: COMMUNITY MEETING

Prior to the start of the Fall Semester, there will be a mandatory Community Meeting for the learner(s) and their adult(s). Any adults in the home, or who share in the care of the learner(s) should plan to attend.
