These key values are merely a starting point; we believe that in order to create a world where justice and liberation is the uncontested right of every human, each of us must be actively working to dismantle systems of oppression. We model this for our learners by doing our personal antiracism, liberation, & healing work with intention, and guiding them through critical thinking discussions & activities. We are building a diverse community of learners where we are all made stronger through our differences. We will never discriminate against anyone regardless of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socioeconomic status, family dynamic, or ability.
Respect for Youth
The learners at Pathfinder School are treated as whole people, with the same dignity and respect as is shown to adults. This includes respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds, religious & spiritual beliefs, and gender identity & pronouns of our learners and their family members. We support our learners dreaming big and finding their unique path while taking care to support their mental, emotional, and physical health.
Freedom to Fail
Failure is a necessary part of success, and we honor our learners by giving them a safe place to get it wrong. We model a growth-mindset approach to mistakes, and support our learners in working through failures in a way that allows them to embrace their missteps as opportunities for growth.
Be a Good Human.
This value is the very heart of our community. We believe each of us has a responsibility to Be a Good Human; at Pathfinder, we do this in 3 significant ways:
Care of Self: We take care of our mental & emotional health, set healthy boundaries, ask for help when we need it, & care for our bodies. We support our learners' mental & physical health by modeling a variety of safe habits and supporting them as they discover what tools help them most.
Care for Each Other: We encourage one another, joyfully celebrate each other’s success, & support one another through our failures. We take pride in practicing intentional acts of kindness.
Care for Our Community & Beyond: We participate in multiple community service activities throughout the year. We work to become global citizens by learning about and respecting the culture, religious and spiritual practices, & history of our fellow humans, especially when their stories are different from our own.
